News - June 25, 2009 - 0 Comments
 |
The New York Times has published an article looking at Palm's disadvantage in the smartphone market. Although the article cites the appeal of the new Palm Pre, the NYT notes the lack of third party software development as a key component to why they lag behind the competitors, namely the iPhone.
"But in a world crowded with iPhones, BlackBerrys and other smartphones, success for the Pre — and possibly the survival of Palm itself — is going to take a lot more than a well-designed device.

Palm Touchstone installed into a BMW
News - June 18, 2009 - 0 Comments
 |
The Palm Pre has only been out for a little more than a week and someone has already hard wired a Palm Touchstone into his BMW's center console. From the Touchstone, he ran a Sprint car charger with a mini-USB connector to the car's electrical system. It looks good, but he had to remove BMW's iDrive controller to do it. That seems like a big sacrifice just for charging your phone. ...read more

News - June 11, 2009 - 0 Comments
 |
Check out this video from cnet. Apparently some Palm Pre users are having issues with the Pre crashing when you close the phone. As you can see in the video, after closing the phone the only option is to reboot which takes quite awhile.
Palm has always had hardware issues and it looks like they haven't learned their lesson. They should take a tip from BlackBerry and build solid, reliable phones. Any of you out there remember having to return a Treo or two? We do....read more

It's probably not too surprising that if Palm was looking for a new CEO they'd pick the guy who oversaw the Pre launch, Jon Rubinstein. Many didn't expect a change at the top so soon though.

Palm Pre likely to flop according to Business Week
News - June 03, 2009 - 0 Comments
 |
William Hurley has just published a grim view of Palm's upcoming Pre. He lays out quite a few reasons why the Pre will be a disappointment. He starts with the stiff competition posed by Apple, RIM, Nokia etc. Can Palm really take on these big boys who have such a big lead in smartphone adoption? Then there's pricing, and their partner carrier Sprint who has lost millions of users in recent months due to customer service and network issues.
